Our program introduces young engineers to programming that takes place in an real learning environment. The robot responds to the programmer’s code and each camper receives immediate feedback to help them enhance their programming talents. Students will build robots and learn a robotic programming language they wish to learn. They will use their own contraptions or ready made robots, or even virtual robots to complete a number different challenges. Students engineer and learn programming. Students will complete robotics tasks to demonstrate mastery of important concepts.
Some of the skills: Using the drive base with light sensor students already have, they will work through the robot educator tasks to review and/or learn reverse, accelerate, curve turn, detect dark line, detect touch, use sensor bumper.
They have had instruction on programming their robot to complete certain tasks using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kits. The series of challenge activities in which students will develop and implement a variety of tasks and skills. The challenge activities will allow for creative design and critical reasoning. Students then program robot. Students are encouraged to use switch commands (if sensor detects white, then robot can go forward/ if sensor detects black, then robot turns to stay within the boundaries) as opposed to wait for commands. Students use trial and error to experiment with designs and programming |
